The UK is transitioning from British Standards (BS) to European EN fire resistance standards – and the September 2029 deadline is closer than it seems.
Whether you test products, specify them, install them, or manage the buildings they go into, the way fire resistance is demonstrated, classified, and evidenced is changing. No part of the supply chain is untouched.
At Attain RTC, we support this transition end-to-end – from fire resistance testing and classification to EXAP strategies, alongside a number of other testing services, from airborne acoustics to small-scale reaction-to-fire.
In simple terms, compliance is no longer just about passing a test – it’s about building a complete evidence package:
- DIAPs define what’s covered without further assessment
- EXAPs extend scope beyond tested specimens
- Classification reports formally assign fire performance
Unlike BS methods, EN standards are more controlled and less flexible. Small design changes can fall outside scope without the right EXAP strategy, meaning BS-tested products won’t simply convert to EN.
Starting early helps you avoid risk and stay ahead by:
- Mapping existing BS evidence to EN requirements
- Planning efficient testing programmes
- Maximising scope through EXAPs
If EN fire resistance isn’t already on your roadmap, now is the time to act.
