The WDA held their Annual General Meeting on the 27th January 2023 at which they elect the chair, vice-chair and secretary for the upcoming year as well as address general matters relating to the running of the association.
This year saw a change in both the Chair and the Vice Chair of the Association.
After 6 years, the outgoing Chair, Keith Meyers, decided not to stand for re-lection. Keith has been a very stable member of the council and has served the association well, helping to drive the British Standards and become a member of the working group. While Keith is stepping down, he will still remain on the BS working group and we hope, and active member of the WDA.
His shoes are to be filled by Darren Hughes, of D Hughes Well Drillers Ltd. Darren was elected by the membership at the January AGM and is well placed to undertake this role, having served as the Vice- Chair of the Association for 9 years Darren States:
“I have been privileged to work alongside Keith and Karenlee in driving forward the Well Drillers Association for 9 years, since January 2013, and I now relish the opportunity to continue being part of the strategic leadership in the role of Chairman. I look forward to utilizing my experience as Managing Director of D Hughes Well Drillers Ltd to raise the profile of the Association, building membership and continuing to ensure the highest standards of drilling within the UK in line with latest developments and regulations within the industry.”
With Darren becoming the Chair of the WDA, this left an opening for a new Vice-Chair and we are pleased to announce that the membership elected Rebecca Taylor of H.D Services Ltd to this position for the next year. Rebecca states:
“I am excited and honoured to have been elected Vice-Chair of the Well Drillers Association. There is a great deal that, as an association, we wish to achieve, and I hope to assist in implementing and driving these changes.”
The secretary for the WDA remains the same this coming year, with Karenlee Barrett being voted in for the 7th consecutive year. Karenlee states:
I’m very happy to have been re elected in this post, it’s a valuable one to provide support and assistance to the committee members in their important roles as Chair and Vice Chair, whilst keeping a tight hold on the financial affairs of the association as well as the smooth running of meetings and preparing these , with the usual paperwork that goes with such a role. I am particularly excited about 2023 with a new committee, who will bring some ‘new’ ideas to the association.
