The patio as an additional dining area

Hotel in Leipzig commissions markilux to furnish its outdoor terrace with weather protection

The “TH Hotel Leipzig” is not far from the city’s new exhibition centre. In 2021, it was reopened with an adjoining restaurant on the site where a historic inn used to be located. The management of the 3-star superior hotel decided to equip the extensive outdoor seating area with a large markilux awning so that it could be used regardless of the weather.

The “TH Hotel Leipzig” now stands on the spot where the listed building, “Haus Wiederitzsch” restaurant, built in 1860, used to be located, offering its guests modern comfort near the new exhibition centre. In 2020, the restaurant was faithfully rebuilt in line with historical plans and expanded to include a hotel and the “Wiet Nam” (Viet Nam) restaurant with a large outdoor terrace. It was intended that the terrace offer protection from the sun, wind and rain and so, in 2023, it was fitted with a markilux awning system that can be closed all round if necessary.

Awning system offers space and atmosphere

Jan Kattenbeck, head of “markilux project”, explains: “In order to extend the dining area outside, the management wanted reliable weather protection for the approximately 150-square-metre terrace of the restaurant with seating for 80 guests.” Since this has been in place, the outdoor space has been used primarily for large family or company celebrations, which are now easier to plan. Primarily, the awning of choice was the “pergola stretch” system. If several of these units are joined together, the system can measure up to 25 by 7 metres and even as a single unit can cover almost 50 square metres. The model is attached to the “markilux syncra” as a free-standing system. Additional triangular awnings mounted on the ends as well as vertical roller blinds provide protection from wind and light rain. Panoramic windows have been incorporated into the vertical blinds, allowing light into the interior and providing a view to the outside when the blinds are closed. Thanks to infrared heaters and LED lighting, the time spent on the restaurant terrace is pleasant – even in the evening or in cooler weather.

Customers impressed by the quality and service

“Large projects like this always need to be planned individually,“ says Mr Kattenbeck. It is important that the look of the awning matches the style of the building and that reliable technology is in place so the awnings are easy to operate. “Moreover, the quality of the products is important to customers and that is why they opt for markilux,” adds the awning expert. Along with reliable, professional service. This includes good advice and support from local specialist dealers, as well as clearly visualised designs of the future awning system. “This complete package enabled us to score highly with the ‘TH Hotel Leipzig’ and thus equip another outdoor dining area with our products,” says a satisfied Jan Kattenbeck.
