Sheltered Housing development, designed by Saunders Boston Architects, recognised at Inside Housing Development Awards 2019
Reynolds Court, a Sheltered Housing scheme designed by Saunders Boston Architects in Newport, Essex, was recognised as a finalist in the Best Older People’s Housing Development (up to 50 homes) category at the Inside Housing Development Awards 2019.
Working alongside Uttlesford District Council, the Cambridge-based architecture practice designed Reynolds Court with the aim of improving facilities for over 60s. The development, officially opened in 2018, aims to create a sense of community through communal lounges, a garden room, hairdressing salon, and guest apartments. Each flat was designed to prioritise light and space, with many having access to balconies, and all containing wet rooms and fitted kitchens.
Darren Heffer, Director of Saunders Boston Architects, said: “We are delighted that Reynolds Court has been recognised at the Inside Housing Development Awards, particularly in this important category. The housing with care sector can often be overlooked, and we like to make sure, through our quality and community-focused design, that it isn’t.”
Reynolds Court was designed to meet the current and future needs of housing with care by utilising a future-proofed sustainable design; including the use of sedum roofs, which encourage biodiversity, improve drainage and thermal qualities, and allow for reduced energy use. Earlier in the year, the development was awarded bronze in the 37- 43 units category of the East of England Elderly Accommodation Counsel (EAC) National Housing for Older People Awards.
