New CPD from AluK provides technical guide to aluminium curtain wall design

Architects and specifiers can get expert advice on designing and specifying aluminium curtain walling from one of the industry’s leading suppliers.

Aluminium systems house AluK has just launched a RIBA approved CPD entitled: ‘Aluminium Curtain Wall Design: A Technical Guide’, which is available as either an in person or virtual event.

The CPD covers both aluminium curtain walling and associated glazing products and covers the specification essentials as laid out in the RIBA guidance, with particular focus on the all-important regulatory and standards frameworks.

It outlines the essential factors to consider in specification – from structural movement to relevant legislation – and includes a useful system design decision tree which outlines the pros and cons of different curtain walling system types and explains which system to use and when.

Nick Cooper, AluK’s Head of Projects said:

“AluK’s range includes both stick and unitised curtain walling options, all CWCT certified and all compatible with our window and door systems, so we can give genuinely independent advice to specifiers on the right option for different applications.

“The new CPD is particularly well timed in that it covers the changes to Part L in the updated Building Regs and the impact those are likely to have on glazing specifications.”

This CPD complements AluK’s existing Buildings as Theatre curtain walling CPD created to help specifiers get a better understanding of the influence and impact of framing, scale and texture in curtain walling on building design, as well as emphasising the sustainable properties of aluminium and glass.
