LEISTER’S COMET 500/700: Reliable overlap welding of geomembranes

Leister’s new COMET 500 / 700 automatic hot-wedge welding machines offer the practical convenience and reliability that civil engineering users want when overlap welding thick and thin geomembranes made of PE, HDPE, and LDPE.

The improved shape of the hot wedge on the COMET 500 / 700 ensures full contact with the welding material and efficient heat transfer during overlap welding. Available in 60 mm and 90 mm, the 90 mm wedge for the COMET 700 is primarily optimized for welding thick geomembranes ranging from 1.5 to 3.0 mm, whilst the 60 mm wedge is suitable for thinner geomembranes. Additionally, there are copper wedges for welding HDPE and LDPE geomembranes, and steel wedges for welding PVC or vinyl.

The COMET 500 / 700 welders are ideally suited for hot-wedge welding geomembranes up to 125 mm overlap thanks to their particularly high heating power of up to 460℃ and digital displays. The high power-reserves on the COMET 500 / 700 ensure high-quality welds even if undervoltage occurs. When welding with the COMET 700, the mains voltage is always shown on the display and the digital display gives an acoustic signal if the welding pressure deviates from the defined range.

The easy to operate digital display shows the welding parameters such as speed, wedge temperature and welding pressure. The required welding pressure can be set on the COMET 500 by means of a force module with an adjustment screw, depending on the application and/or material.

Reaching speeds up to 8m/min without the need for a gearbox conversion, the COMET 500 / 700 achieve homogenous welding seams, and with powerful drive motors as well as pressure rollers with tremendous grip, the COMET 500 / 700 weld with ease even on uneven and steep terrain. Various, easy to change pressure rollers are available for the COMET 500 / 700 welding machines, for all typical weld seam geometries, for example, steel and silicone, as well as with and without a test channel.

The COMET 700 also offers the Leister Quality System (LQS), WIFI and GPS, allowing the user to document and verify the quality of the welding parameters of heat speed and pressure, and coordinates, and easily create digital welding reports.

Due to well thought-out positioning of the three handles, the COMET 500 / 700 welders are easy to handle, guide, lift and transport. The COMET 500 / 700 also has an optional roller extension which can be mounted on the roller to help stabilise smooth materials such as PVC.
