LAMILUX shares valuable expert advice for specifying skylights

Specifying skylights, SHEVs, roof access hatches and glass roofs can be a tricky business, so LAMILUX are here to share some useful tips to consider when choosing your preferred rooflight supplier.

Air, wind and water test ratings are all important performance factors to consider, to guarantee resistance to high wind loads and ensure no leaks through the rooflights, even in extreme weather. LAMILUX rooflights are manufactured in such a way that the framework is thermally broken and insulated ensuring energy efficient framework, excellent airtightness performance, high resistance to wind loads and watertight testing against driving rain.

Ask to witness product Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) which will verify environmental performances from a life cycle perspective and inform environmental credentials of construction products such as rooflights.

Isothermal diagrams provide information on where cold bridges can occur and condensate can be expected to form on the inside face of a skylight: As can be seen in the diagram (left), the course of the 10 °C isothermal line (red line in the diagram) runs continuously within the structure of all LAMILUX rooflights resulting in a frame completely free of cold bridges. This prevents condensate and mould formation which improves comfort and hygiene and saves on heating costs.

Choosing a rooflight supplier with a complete turnkey solution means that all your rooflighting requirements are supplied by one company. This avoids split responsibility between manufacturer, fabricator and installer and means only one guarantee is necessary. LAMILUX can deliver on a supply only basis or offer a complete turnkey solution including installation, testing and commissioning of all your daylighting and ventilation requirements.

Early engagement with our company will be crucial to the successful delivery of these factors – we need time to get involved with developing the designs and adding value with expert specification advice. Some of these products have a long manufacture lead-in period, so please get in touch with LAMILUX early in the design stage to ensure we’re instructed in good time.
