There are four types of bricks:
- Facing bricks
- Engineering bricks
- Special Shape Bricks
- Glazed Bricks
Bricks are a type of concrete building material used for masonry. They are made from clay and other materials, such as sand, water, and cement. Bricks are used to build walls and other structures that need to resist the elements.
Bricks are usually rectangular blocks with a flat surface on the top, called an “end”, and one or more rounded sides called “sides”. Most bricks have two sides but some have four or more sides called “double-bonded” bricks.
What are Facing bricks used for?
Facing bricks are used to give a neat, finished appearance to the front of a wall and to hide poor quality brickwork. They can be used in conjunction with normal bricks or on their own. Facing bricks have no cavities, unlike cavity wall insulation, which is designed for use between two facing materials.
Facing brickwork was very popular from the 17th century onwards because it gave an attractive appearance and hid poor quality brickwork. Facing material could also be used as an alternative finish for a stonemason’s work where he had run out of stone blocks or had not enough money left over after completing his contract (poor people were also sometimes employed to make up the difference).
What are Engineering bricks used for?
- Engineering bricks are made from a mixture of clay, sand and stone.
- These bricks are used in construction of bridges and other structures that need to be strong and durable.
- They are more expensive than regular bricks but they offer better value for money because they can last longer than regular brick walls if properly maintained.
What are Special Shaped Bricks?
Special Shape Bricks are a unique, decorative variety of bricks that come in all shapes and sizes. Special Shape Bricks provide an opportunity to create custom designs for walls and chimneys, flower beds, planters, fireplaces and more.
What are Glazed Bricks?
Glazed bricks are fired ceramic bricks that are dipped in a glazing color before they are fired to create a solid colored layer on the surface of the brick.
Glazed Bricks are a perfect choice for any type of brick wall installation. They are easy to install and available in various colours, patterns and styles.
What color is brick?
Brick comes in a variety of colors and styles. Colors are determined by the materials used to create the brick before it’s fired. The most common color for brick is red, which is produced from iron oxide, although you may also see
- Black
- Blue
