Holmes Miller builds on South East offering with new technical lead

Architectural firm Holmes Miller has appointed Mariyam Afnida as associate and technical lead in the company’s new St Albans studio, to support its growth strategy in England’s south east.

Ms Afnida has worked on a broad portfolio of projects in the education, commercial, hospitality, judicial and healthcare sectors, including in Dubai and Abu Dhabi.

Since joining Holmes Miller in 2021, she has been leading its work on the flagship £27m London South Bank Technical College in Lambeth, set to give 4,000 students the chance to study STEAM skills (science, technology, engineering, arts and maths) early in 2023.

Her expertise in Building Information Modelling (BIM) will help the practice meet the exacting standards required by Department for Education framework projects, and she will also assume responsibility for staff training.

Mark Ellson, director and head of the St Albans studio at Holmes Miller, said:

“Mariyam’s promotion recognises the extensive experience and senior leadership skills she possesses. A confident and meticulous architect, she has evolved into this pivotal role within our senior leadership team, guiding and managing our expanding studio in the south east of England.

“On the back of her exemplary work on London South Bank Technical College, she has opened up further opportunities in the further and higher education sectors, contributing to our growth south of the border”

Mariyam Afnida said:

“During my time at Holmes Miller I have been lucky enough to work on a wide variety of projects across various sectors and have witnessed the company’s recent expansion in the south east of England, underpinning its position as one of the UK’s leading sustainability-driven architecture practices.

“In this new role I am looking forward to driving further growth in England, especially in education, and raising sustainability standards across the industry as we try to create a better future for society.”
