Since the pandemic, many architects and specifiers have been looking at ways to design and rejuvenate leisure spaces to win back and maintain clientele, increasing visitor numbers to the levels seen pre-lockdown.
From active and motivational zones like gyms, to spaces for relaxation like hotels and spas, there are many different types of leisure facilities, all of which aim to inspire different atmospheres. However, the core considerations for their design should remain the same:
Colour
First and foremost, architects should consider how the colour and design of the space can stimulate the ambiance it is hoping to create. More action-packed facilities like gyms require a bright and vibrant colour scheme to aid motivation. On the other hand, hotel rooms and restaurants toned to encourage a relaxed feeling, so opting for a softer, calmer palette with more comforting tones is preferable.
Additionally, colour schemes should always tie into the style of the building and pay homage to its heritage. They should also fit with any existing design elements that are being kept or championed, to make sure the space flows and the architectural style of the building is reflected in its interior design.
Product choice
As well as colour choice, the paint type is also hugely important, as architects will want to opt for a durable solution that performs well in high-traffic areas. Dulux Trade Diamond Matt is a highly durable offering that can withstand 10,000 scrubs (the equivalent of five hours non-stop scrubbing), and stops stains from being absorbed into the surface, making it easier to clean. It is also 99.9% VOC free (Based on in-can VOC content, measured in accordance with ISO 11890-2:2013), and this, combined with its lack of need for regular redecoration, makes it a good choice for the sustainably-minded.
Additionally, Dulux Trade Scuffshield works well in areas with high footfall, as its stain-resistant technology protects against scuffmarks from shoes and bags. Its matt finish also means it is less likely to show any wall imperfections, keeping it looking fresher for longer.
