Setting new standards for airport retail creativity and innovation – DFS introduces first two-level spirits, wine & tobacco flagship store at Changi, Singapore, a major airport hub is South East Asia.
Airports are establishing their place on the retail map as destinations in their own right, with airport authorities around the globe expanding their retail and F&B offers. With a particularly rapid expansion seen in Asia, this on-going push to drive non-aviation revenue at airports is leading to increasingly creative and dynamic concepts in airport retail design as retailers strive to create unique destination flagship stores.
Woods Bagot was engaged by DFS to design and deliver the retail facades and complete interiors packages of these new stores. The original concept was provided by Wonderwall during bid process for DFS, which later interpreted by Woods Bagot and delivered the concept from schematic design through to the construction phase. Store designs were developed for Terminals 1, 2 and 3, with major structural alterations undertaken for the two larger stores at Terminals 2 and 3, voids were created in both these stores with existing facades reconfigured to maximise retail frontage and open up access and sight lines.
DFS Changi stores are infused with local context and flavour enabling them to provide distinct and customised experiences for passengers. At Changi’s Terminal 3 DFS offer a world class range of Spirits, Wine & Tobacco housed within a new and unique two level boutique store.
To further enhance the customer experience, also another first exclusive for DFS and Changi Airport is to introduce Singapore’s iconic Raffles Bar at the upper level of the new store, DFS offer a destination for passengers to enjoy a truly authentic Singaporean experience. The bar encourages passengers to dwell longer in the retail environment before heading to the departure gates. To supplement this offer DFS has also incorporated a distinct and high profile centrally located tasting bar on the lower floor, sitting under the dramatic, sweeping canopy at the centre of the space. An impressive double height display of Wines and Spirits lines the walls of the balconies around the void edge ensuring merchandise is highly visible throughout the store.
Supplementing this offer at Terminal 3 is the smaller Terminal 1 store. Located at Immigration, this store embodies all the elements of the larger store with a centrally located tasting bar under the distinct canopy drawing passengers in immediately after passing through Immigration. DFS Changi Terminal 2 store will open in July 2016.
