Topping out ceremony takes place at new Lombard Street development

CGI images of 30 Lombard Street, McKay Securities’ new office development in the City of London, have been released by tp bennett as a topping out ceremony, led by ISG, takes place in the City.

The event formally marks the final piece of the outer structure on the rooftop of Lombard Street. The redevelopment of the site formally occupied by the headquarters of the Clydesdale Bank will be one of only a few new build office developments of its size to be completed within the City of London.

The new speculative building will provide just under 58,000 sq. ft of accommodation for occupiers looking to locate to capitalise on a flagship address in the historic heart of London’s financial district. The prime Square Mile location is within walking distance of Bank and Monument tube stations.

The project will deliver tp bennett’s concept for a modern design strongly linked with the street’s heritage, using an elegant material palette of stone, bronze & glass. The team collaborated with renowned architectural artist Kate Maestri who introduced a gold accent to the building design through a façade artwork that references the sites’ historical connection with the weaving Guilds, a precursor to the banking industry, which was to make the street so renowned.

A key objective of the Client was to provide an open-plan floorplate. The team worked with structural engineer Campbell Reith to design a structural solution that delivers a clear span, flexible space that will appeal to a broad range of potential occupiers.

“Achieving a column-free interior space required clever engineering, but the complexity is largely invisible in the final design. The investment is fully justified as it will ensure this unique new building is befitting for one of the most historic streets in The City of London.”

The development is programmed to complete in late Spring 2018.
