Poole-based T.A. Colbourne Limited (TAC) has been appointed as specialist contractors for the £50 million leisure complex development on Exeter Road in Bournemouth town centre.
Situated on the former NCP car park site, work is currently well underway on the West Central development which will house a 10-screen Odeon restaurant, retail stores and restaurants, including Nando’s, TGI Friday’s and Prezzo.
Through a competitive tender process, management company Vinci Construction has selected TAC to construct the roof and wall cladding systems.
Commenting on the appointment, senior project manager of VINCI Construction UK Rod Nutbourne explains:
“We appointed T.A. Colbourne to complete the design detailing on this very complex structure primarily due to the previous experience that TA Colbourne have on complex structures like this one and through working relationships built with our teams at the recently completed St Ann’s project.”
The two companies have worked together successfully on a previous project, the renovation of St Ann’s Hospital in Canford Cliffs, Poole, where TAC built a new entrance, glazed façade, and roof top plant room.
Commenting on the West Central project, director of T.A.Colbourne Tom Colbourne says:
“We have been involved with the project since its inception nearly nine years ago and are delighted to see it proceed to the point where our services have been called upon to make our preliminary work on this landmark development come to fruition.”
With more than 30 years’ experience within the construction industry, the TAC team will be drawing on their vast knowledge of innovative new materials for the wall cladding, and to ensure that the roof, which is overlooked by the new Hilton Hotel, blends into the Bournemouth Gardens landscape.
“Our team has a lot of experience of working in town centres which is useful as the working area is very restricted and we will be rolling 26 metre long standing seam aluminium roof sheets on site.
“We are very pleased to be working with the Vinci team again and look forward to adding another prestigious project to our portfolio.”
The project is scheduled to be finished by the middle of next year.
