When it comes to ‘fire protection’, there can be no compromise – the lives of many people depends on the safety of their homes. Furthermore, we must protect people’s possessions, their livelihoods and memories. The tragic events at London’s Grenfell Tower have brought these issues to the forefront and acted as a stark reminder to us all.
At the same time housing projects offer aesthetic challenges too. To ensure residents feel ‘at home’ and comfortable, buildings should be visually appealing without compromising on safety. With m.look, the Austrian materials specialist FunderMax, has developed a fire-resistant facade material (fire class A2s2d0), which offers unprecedented levels of design freedom.
A good example, which showcases the strength of m.look perfectly, is the renovation of a residential building in Erding, Bavaria. With it being a condominium, the planners had to prepare a number of facade design proposals for the owners. m.look mastered this challenge with ease because it can rely on an extensive range of trusted FunderMax decors, which open up a great variety of design options.
Once again, this project presented a number of structural challenges to the team: for example, around 7,000 m² of old facade panels had to be removed and disposed of separately. Another challenge (as well as an important design criteria) was the integration of roller shutter boxes, door elements and balcony railings into the overall visual concept. With this in mind, the decision had to be m.look, since only this material met all technical specifications as well as the required product sustainability. These requirements included: suitability for high-quality architecture, surface quality, anti-graffiti properties, easy to clean, scratch and impact resistance, high integrity, low weight and good stability of corners and edges.
Both the product and service quality from FunderMax contributed to the success of the project. The attentiveness of FunderMax employees and partners, resulted in great praise and the apartment owners are now able to enjoy the new stylish and fireproof design.
