Stelrad achieves leading status in management systems and gains shortlisting for SHP IOSH National Safety Awards in the “best health and safety achievement in manufacturing” category

Stelrad Radiators has gone one step further in its attempts to consolidate leading status in its field in management systems with the achievement of Achilles Building Confidence Level 5 accreditation. This sees the company well out ahead of its competitors and alongside the leading companies across the UK.

The Achilles accreditation is aimed at buyers who want to use suppliers they can trust.

Stelrad has undergone a rigorous assessment process to attain the Accreditation. The assessment process investigates in detail all elements of Stelrad’s management systems from Health, Safety and Environment to Human Resources and Purchasing arrangements that are in place. This is what makes Stelrad the supplier of choice for many customers.

The Achilles process offers customers automatic assurance that Stelrad manages its business ethically and that it is a secure business for all its stakeholders. Achilles Building Confidence allows Stelrad to assess the level to which its management standards and initiatives are effectively implemented. Through regular updating of the systems in place it is able to offer the highest levels of customer satisfaction, never resting on its laurels as it strives for continuing improvement to ensure that it remains the best supplier in the business.

Achieving this latest accreditation follows on from its earlier achievement of gaining certification to BSI OHSAS 18001 – a standard that relates to Safety Management Systems – added to the certifications it already held of BSI ISO 149001 relating to Environmental Management Systems and BSI ISO 9001 relating to Quality Management Systems. These standards, certifications and accreditations simply highlight the importance to Stelrad of being at the front of the queue when it comes to quality across the board.

Neil Land is Stelrad’s Health and Safety Manager: “Each of these Certifications and the Achilles Accreditation is seen as a key business requirement and the fact that we attained all three standards and have now added the Achilles Accreditation, is assurance that the business is managed professionally and in line with recognised international standards.”

Stelrad has also just been selected as a finalist for the IOSH SHP National Safety Awards in the “best health and safety achievement in manufacturing” category, the second year the company has been selected in the top five businesses in the UK for this accolade.

This is a prestigious annual awards scheme that highlights the very best in health and safety practice around the UK: “We’re delighted to have got this far in the awards again,” says Neil Land, Health and Safety Manager at Stelrad. “With over two million radiators a year coming out of our factories, and with the complex manufacturing equipment on our sites, we are constantly looking at our health and safety performance and the measures which we can take to improve. The selection of Stelrad as finalists in these awards two years in a row, demonstrates our commitment to drive changes through to create a safer working environment for all our people. We’re looking forward to the awards night and we’ve got our fingers crossed that we hear our name announced on the night this year!”
