Stainless steel roofs for £73m student village

A UGINOX® Patina stainless steel roofing system has been installed throughout the £73m Vita York student village. Built on the site of a former convent, fifteen 3 and 4-storey blocks have been added to the Grade 11-listed Victorian buildings.

UGINOX Patina was specified as its coating weathers quickly to take on the appearance of aged lead, the material being approved by English Heritage as an alternative to lead where there is an ongoing threat of metal theft. The stainless steel was fabricated in traditional standing seam, the project overall achieving BREEAM ‘Very Good’ status.
