Skanska UK leads industry with Level 2 BIM verification

Skanska UK is one of the first construction companies to achieve company-wide Level 2 BIM Capability verification from BSI – a requirement from April 2016 for new public sector contracts.

Skanska UK received the verification from BSI, the business standards body on 2 December. It’s formal recognition that Skanska UK has established the systems and procedures necessary for BIM implementation. Skanska has achieved verification to PAS 1192-2: 2013.

In facilities management, Skanska is also one of the first to achieve company-wide verification.

Roger Bayliss, Executive Vice President, Skanska UK, said:

“At Skanska we are embracing the power of technology to improve the way that we work and the service we provide to our customers. We are delighted to achieve company-wide Level 2 BIM Capability verification.

“We have invested consistently in digital engineering, including BIM, over many years. It’s the catalyst for collaboration and is helping us to reduce risk, save time and improve efficiency.

“Through turning new technologies into our ‘business as usual’ approach, we are developing better solutions that leave a positive and lasting legacy for the communities in which we work.”

The verification was achieved on the day that the BSI formally launched its verification scheme to the industry. To achieve the verification, Skanska had to demonstrate that it had developed standardised processes and procedures for BIM implementation and that these were understood and in practice across the business.

Malcolm Stagg, Director of BIM and Digital Engineering at Skanska UK, said:

“BIM is one of the most exciting developments for construction and facilities and asset management in recent memory.

“Through BIM we can capture, share and manage data centrally – enabling effective collaboration with clients, our supply chain and industry partners.

“Achieving this milestone is the result of much hard work by many people across the business and further demonstrates that we can offer our clients genuine capability in digital engineering.”
