Shigeru Ban Architects won the international competition for the design of Austrian wood furniture manufacturer TEAM 7’s new headquarters.
Shigeru Ban’s winning concept won over the jury with an innovative, energy-neutral wooden construction.
“The design by Shigeru Ban really speaks to the heart and soul of TEAM 7”, says owner and Managing Director Dr Georg Emprechtinger. “The concept transforms our many-faceted philosophy into a reality in every respect”.
The building will span four stories, joined together centrally by an expansive, oval interior space. A spiral ramp, staircase, and a lift are there to convey visitors and employees in this transparent atrium from the exhibition floor, over two stories of open-plan offices, to the skybox on the fourth floor.
Transparency and openness are the fundamental principles of the design, because the intelligent use of glass and shade enables the maximum use of daylight and the connection of interior and exterior.
Sophisticated ventilation technology provides the rooms with perfect climate control. The use of wood and modern energy-efficient technologies means that the building will have a minimal environmental footprint and a favourable carbon balance.
