RGU Architecture students showcase innovative work at End of Year show

The Robert Gordon University (RGU) Scott Sutherland School of Architecture and Built Environment end of year show is set to address high-level issues, with students proposing novel solutions and ideas in a variety of real scenarios.

The event, which runs from Saturday, June 23 to Sunday, July 15, is open to the public and will showcase the best work of Architecture and Architectural Technology students, reflecting the broad spectrum of activities undertaken within the school.

Among the projects, the three Masters Units will focus on – a masterplan for Aviemore which creates a new centre for the tourist town, ensuring it is setup to cater for the tens of thousands of visitors it hosts every year; the development of housing and commercial buildings along the floodplains of the River Dee; and, creation of innovative educational buildings in Scotland and throughout the world.

The public will also be able to view the students’ work and concepts around the future for Aberdeen Harbour and the ongoing work in Orkney.

The End of Year Show offers a unique chance for the members of the public and industry to have a glimpse into studio life, taking in a variety of exhibitions, models and videos created by the students.

David Vardy, architecture lecturer at Scott Sutherland School, commented:

“On display are a broad range of design projects that ably demonstrate the high calibre of our students, as well as the sophisticated skills they develop that make them highly sought after by employers.”

“The end of year show gives you the opportunity to see work which achieves a refined balance between imagination and realism, a balance that renders work progressive and inspiring, yet also credible and compelling.”

“As a school we are interested in addressing real scenarios and conditions, exploring these with creativity and rigour. It is this focus that equips our graduates to make an impact and lasting contribution to our professions, our industry, our communities and to society.”

The 2018 End of Year Show will take place in the Scott Sutherland School of Architecture and Built Environment in the Sir Ian Wood Building and is open from 8am to 10pm weekdays and 10am to 6pm at the weekend.
