Phaidon Press, the renowned publisher of books on the visual arts, launches an essential new digital resource for architects that includes over 3,000 of the world’s most inspirational and innovative architecture projects built since the year 2000.
Phaidon Atlas offers users the most in-depth and wide-ranging record of the world’s most interesting architecture. Selected by specialists based across the globe this digital directory includes 3000+ buildings (featuring 130,000+ stunning drawings and images) from over 115 countries.
This is the most sophisticated architecture search tool ever designed and allows the user to refine their search by material type, location and many more filters to ensure quick, accurate and comprehensive results. This incredible library of buildings can be shaped to present the trends and extremes of architecture today: an insight into the architectural practices of China, to growth of development in Brazil, from the smallest buildings to the most expensive, all of this and much more is at the touch of a button.
Each building is presented through photographs, drawings and designs – many materials that cannot be accessed anywhere else – and demonstrates the design process of some of the world’s leading architects such as Foster and Partners, Daniel Libeskind, Richard Meier, Zaha Hadid Architects, MVRDV, BIG – Bjarke Ingels, Peter Eisenman, Steven Holl, Mass Studies – Minsuk Cho, MK27 – Marcio Kogan, John Pawson, Dominique Perrault, and SO-IL.
Phaidon Atlas is the product of 6 years of research and the input of over 200 architects, universities and students from UK, Europe and the USA who have helped to shape and streamline the design and function of the site. Each project is reviewed by regular panels, made up of Phaidon editors, guest architects, critics and thinkers to ensure that the Atlas achieves and retains depth, scope and currency, not possible in print. Curating entries allows for better depth per entry, while regular expansion maintains scope and currency.
This new digital product is a development from the hugely successful Phaidon Atlas book series that includes the Phaidon Atlas of Contemporary World Architecture (2004) and the Phaidon Atlas of 21st Century Architecture (2008). Showcasing the finest architecture from around the world, the books attracted new audiences to specialist and rarely seen buildings. This new product takes the ethos of the Phaidon Atlas series and sees a new kind of innovation in arts publishing.
Phaidon Atlas is designed to evolve as a growing online community to help build a global network for architects to communicate and share ideas, and it already is a must-have research tool and an essential resource for anyone creating, studying, involved in, or passionate about the field of contemporary architecture.
