Washroom Washroom has put its gloss on a high specification washroom design for a prestigious office building in central London.
Originally designed by Foster + Partners and built in 1990, 200 Grays Inn Road is a landmark building which has recently undergone a period of phased refurbishment works starting in January 2013, through current owners the Great Ropemaker Partnership. The work is being led by architects IMA with each phase carried out by principal contractor Overbury PLC. The whole design has been carefully considered to take into account improving efficiencies as well as upgrading to Cat A office accommodation.
Working closely with the client, Washroom installed new toilet facilities on floors four and six in a live office environment, working around existing occupiers.
The toilet cores were designed in collaboration with IMA acknowledging the client’s brief and incorporating high calibre materials and bespoke features to meet the increasing demands of end users.
Washroom installed its full height, floor-to-ceiling Alto WC cubicles to provide complete privacy for end users. The design also included the Concerto integrated duct panel system installed behind the WCs to ensure ease of access for future maintenance.
Both the WC ducts and Alto cubicle doors were manufactured with a simple but effective white gloss laminate finish, taking forward the modern and clean design theme adopted by the architect where refurbishing the office accommodation.
For the vanities, a bespoke bright white Corian design incorporating individual basins with inset soap dispensers and concealed waste bins was installed to create a sleek and minimalist look. Corian, which can be cut to any shape and joined with inconspicuous seams to produce a perfectly neat and unified appearance, is incredibly durable, so was considered the ideal material choice for a busy office environment.
Trevor Bowers, director of Washroom Washroom, said:
“It was a privilege to work on such a prestigious office building. We’re really pleased with the design and level of finish achieved. The washrooms have a very minimalistic aesthetic and we look forward to hopefully working again with the client when completing further schemes across their managed portfolio in the years to come.”
