Iwan Thomas MBE champions wedi for wet rooms

Iwan Thomas one of Britain’s finest record-breaking 400m runners and former Gold medal winner has chosen wedi to create the wet rooms for his stylish UK home. Iwan, no stranger to high performance, having won medals at Olympic, World, European and Commonwealth level, wanted a high class creative design combined with the assurance of high quality performance and found the solution in the range of options provided by wedi.

Two solutions from wedi’s unique waterproof systems were selected which open up creative design possibilities for walk-in showers, wet-rooms and bathroom design.

The innovative design possibilities with wedi are virtually endless, and the first option chosen was the spiral Fundo Nautilo, which covers an area 1.89 x 1.51 metres and 2.015 metres high. Fundo Nautilo comes as a complete, ready to install kit, including wall sections, base, and drain.

The wedi Fundo floor level shower systems have been used successfully throughout the world. All Fundo shower bases are produced from the impermeable wedi building board with a pre-set fall from the outer edges to the drain position and are supplied complete with a high performance, 48 litre/minute capacity drain, allowing for the most powerful showers to be incorporated into the overall design.

A second shower system was created using the wedi Sanbath Cube shower unit incorporating a stylish and contemporary look using an L-shaped design. The Sanbath series includes showers, wash stands, sinks and bathtubs – all ready to tile. Each item is equipped with preinstalled piping and/or drains. The shower units include Hansgrohe’s revolutionary I-Box and are compatible with all Hansgrohe and Axor trims and fittings.

Iwan was delighted with the end result and commented:

“wedi is in a class of its own, and offered me the creativity to create an attractive personalised look whilst achieving a high quality finish to my wet rooms and even better providing me with total peace of mind and performance for many years to come.”
