The archiboo web awards were launched this year to celebrate companies using the internet to communicate great architecture.
Founder of archiboo, Amanda Baillieu, conceived the awards as a way to encourage architects to champion themselves through their websites. She noted: “A growing number of architects are using innovative ways to showcase what they do, using effective and elegant design with considered and appropriate digital technologies”.
The competition proved immediately popular with 300 entries submitted by the deadline.
The award winners are:
Best use of Social Media – Ben Adams Architects
The judges said: “Ben Adams Architects’ approach to social media is joined-up, bold and original. We particularly liked the winner’s tone on Twitter that makes it a practice you’d really want to work with”.
Best Home Page – FCBStudios
The judges commented: “We felt the winner’s home page was welcoming, accessible and the use of photography was high quality, impactful and dramatic”.
Best use of Technology – BDP
The judges were impressed with its “simple navigation, good text size on mobile and lots of engaging content, including video. Its international successes are strong and the UX is good”. There was special praise for the use of Pinterest.
Best Written Content – The Modern House
The judges said the writing was “excellent enough to be a blog in its own right”.
Best Visual Design – Conran & Partners
“This is design in the true sense strong presentation, great clarity, straightforward navigation and intuitive response with impactful photography”, said the judges. The website was designed byVery Own Studio.
Best Overall Experience – The Modern House
The judges agreed The Modern House website “is a brilliant mix of tech and design, making it very engaging and easy to navigate through a vast amount of content, without bombarding the viewer”. The Modern House was shortlisted in five of the six categories. The website was designed by Field Projects.
The winners of the archiboo web awards were announced at a reception last night (September 22) at designjunction
Introducing the shortlist and winners, Amanda Baillieu said:
“Architects are perhaps the most design-savvy business people but it’s taken them time to understand that a good website is the face of their practice to the world.
“The high standard shows that this message is now getting through. Our winners have websites that are designed for mobile with links to social media channels and a user experience that is intuitive, user-friendly and fast”.
