CABE awarded Licensed Member status of Engineering Council

Chartered Association of Building Engineers (CABE) is delighted to announce it has received approval to become a Licensed Member of the Engineering Council. The awarding of the licence will pave the way for CABE members to be formally eligible for Chartered Engineer status on equal terms with other leading engineering professional bodies

The licence award follows four years of development and consultation at CABE, with 91% of its members voting in favour of the association changing its by-laws to become a full member of the Engineering Council and offer the Chartered Engineer (CEng) registration.

Dr Gavin Dunn, CEO of CABE said: “We are absolutely delighted with this licence award from the Engineering Council, as it further recognises building engineering as a defined engineering discipline in its own right and their professional competence both in the UK and internationally.”

This will enable the association to maintain the existing title Chartered Building Engineer and enable members to pursue the additional CEng registration if they wish. They will also have a clear and defined route to gain further international recognition.

Engineering Council CEO Alasdair Coates said: “The Engineering Council’s vision is to maintain society’s confidence and trust in the engineering profession. We achieve this through working with partners across the professional engineering community and are pleased to see CABE achieving those standards expected of a Licensed Member with the Engineering Council, offering a route to professional engineering registration titles for its members”.

CABE’s members will now, for the first time, have access to a route to the top tier of engineering qualifications and help secure the next generation of building engineers to fulfil the need for competent professionals to ensure the built environment is both safe and efficient for future generations.

CABE membership has grown in the past five years with notable increases in student and international members. CABE is playing a larger role within building engineering in Hong Kong, USA, Middle East, Asia and New Zealand. Being a Licensed Member of the Engineering Council will further the international recognition and ability of members to demonstrate competence within this globally-minded and internationally-recognised association.
