SRIA is delighted to announce that its Chief Executive, Julia Evans, will be a skills seminar panellist at the forthcoming North England Build 2016 Expo on Wednesday 27th April, being held at Manchester Central.
The construction industry across the North of England is also set to boom. The UK government is investing heavily in multiple schemes across the North of England aimed at establishing a ‘Northern Powerhouse’ that competes strongly in the world economy. Alongside infrastructure investment, substantial investment is to be made in the regeneration of city centres.
Julia Evans, Chief Executive, BSRIA, said:
“I am delighted to have been asked to sit on this important panel with such eminent speakers. Skills play such a crucial role in the construction industry: indeed it is the biggest threat to the industry’s future. The ‘Northern Powerhouse’ is also key for BSRIA and ‘UK plc’ as highlighted by the Chancellor in the recent Budget with government’s commitment to investment in vital infrastructure projects. These represent an exciting opportunity for the ‘Northern Powerhouse’.
“BSRIA appointed a Business Manager for the North of England in January 2016 as an essential step in BSRIA’s continued development of this key area which highlights our commitment to ‘life north of Watford’.
“The need to close the skills gap and attract more people into construction careers is more critical than ever in light of a potential ‘Brexit’, as many of BSRIA’s members – and the wider industry – rely on skilled workers from Europe.
“We need to change the image of our industry and make it a more attractive career proposition. Government can help industry to communicate better to make engineering more interesting.”
Attendance will ensure the industry is kept up to date with the latest industry developments, they can find out about the latest construction projects, network with industry peers, meet senior level executives from a large number of local and international companies, and ensure they stay at the top of their field.
North England Build 2016 is the only event of its kind to cover construction opportunities and projects across all of the north.
