Granary Square, London welcomes dining room and bar The Lighterman, a brand new building spanning the eastern side of Granary Square, offering three floors of all-day dining and drinking, with alfresco seating on both Regent’s Canal and Granary Square, plus a wraparound terrace with views over King’s Cross.
Named after the Victorian workers who operated the ‘lighter’ goods barges, this is the third venue from Open House (Percy & Founders, The Larder) and their most ambitious project to date. The pavilion-style building was designed by RIBA Stirling Prize winning architects Stanton Williams, who have contributed to the wider regeneration of King’s Cross with projects including Central St Martins and King’s Cross Square.
Open-House-designed interiors follow the same industrial look. Raw materials further showcase the building’s stunning design – from untouched concrete walls to pale floorboards laid in line with the exterior. Floor-to-ceiling windows encourage visitors to look outwards, taking in views of the canal, bustling square and the ever-expanding King’s Cross skyline.
