New Clerk of Works and Site Inspector Handbook: The indispensable companion for on-site construction management

This second edition of the Clerk of Works and Site Inspector Handbook is a timely arrival.

Written by the Institute of the Clerk of Works and Construction Inspectorate (ICWCI) and published by RIBA Publishing, the Handbook provides a practical guide for clerks of works, site inspectors and anyone with the responsibility of managing construction works on-site.

Rachel Morris, Chief Executive for the ICWCI said:

“The recession of the 1990’s brought about a gradual decline in the use of Clerk of Works services; however, in recent years the role has been more prominent as the industry recognises the important need to ensure quality in construction.”

“The traditional clerk of works/site inspector role and their liabilities are explained in the Handbook, as well as the duties and responsibilities linked to a more contemporary construction setting; it explores the relationship between key stakeholders, providing a valuable insight into reporting and what to look for, check and test throughout the construction process.”

Amanda Clack, Executive Director at CBRE and Past President for the RICS quoted in the Foreword;

“With the ever-increasing backdrop of a strong construction pipeline, particularly for homes and infrastructure, and the need to build faster and with modern methods of construction, there has never been a more important time for the Clerk of Works role on projects.”

The Handbook contains important lessons for the construction industry and will help professionals to deliver quality construction projects.

The working group behind this new edition helped to incorporate important updates, expand on trade elements and introduce new sections that relate to ecological and environmental facets, and effective reporting for those with a nuclear specialism.

The ICWCI and RIBA Publishing are indebted to the team who worked on this new edition.
