Leigh & Orange has been awarded the design contract to provide architectural services for the first Vanke and Hangzhou Metro joint-venture Transit Oriented Development (TOD) project in Hangzhou, China.
The project is located at the Xiangyuanlu Station of Metro Line 10 with a site area of 27,300s m², it contains 68,300 m² of above ground commercial GFA and 43,400 m² basement retail and carpark. Appointed by Vanke, L&O’s scope of work will cover masterplanning, TOD and architecture design services.
Upon completion in 2019, the TOD project will comprise four 50 m tall office blocks and one retail & amenities podium with shopping streets enclosing a landmark public courtyard at the very heart of the development. It will focus on the engagement with the community, and as a result, there will be pocket space, sports playground, roof garden, urban farm and communal facilities scattered around at different levels. This project has provided a seamless connection to the underground metro station to its west, linking up the landmark courtyard at B1 and the retail and amenities space.

L&O has a long history of creating TOD projects, which are mixed-use and commercial areas designed to maximise land values and return on investment through optimising access to public transport and incorporating features to encourage the development of integrated environments for live, work and play.
Other examples of L&O’s work in this area include, Shenzhen Metro in Qianhai, a project abuts an on-grade metro maintenance depot with floor height of nine metres in Qianhai commercial district. It comprises two office towers, a serviced apartment block, two boutique hotels, a retail podium, shopping streets and eleven residential towers, with a total GFA of 544,800 m².
