Ubiflex Extreme, the premium non-lead flashing introduced by Ubbink in 2017, has gained BBA certification, to match the Ubiflex B3 range.
With the popularity of Ubiflex B3 already well established in the UK market, this latest move further reinforces Ubbink’s position as the market leader in non-lead flashings.
Ubiflex Extreme can be used in most applications where lead is traditionally used to provide a weatherproof junction at features such as changes of direction and materials. It has been developed to withstand extremely harsh weather conditions, with an extended working temperature range: –30°C to +180°C. It has all the features of the current Ubiflex B3 range, being significantly lighter and easier to handle than lead, with no scrap value.
Ubiflex Extreme comprises of a reinforced aluminium mesh with a textured silicone coating to both sides – one Grey and the other Black – so it can be installed with either side visible, depending on the specific requirements of the application. This simplifies ordering and reduces the need to stock different colours. The Grey side provides a very close match of traditional lead flashing, making it particularly suitable for installations where aesthetics are important.
Ubiflex Extreme is fully malleable and is not susceptible to thermal movement. This means that aprons up to 5m long can be formed without seams or expansion joints, minimising wastage. It’s easy to cut with a sharp knife or snips and can be easily worked by hand in all directions, exactly the same way as lead flashing, but without the need for protective measures: an important Health & Safety consideration for installers.
In addition to BBA Certification, it has been tested at the BRE where it received a Class A fire rating pass and was wind tunnel tested to 100mph.
Ubiflex Extreme is compatible with most common building materials and components, such as thermal panels, extract flues, ventilators, rooflights and flat roofing membranes including PVC single ply. It’s stable and will not cause any unsightly staining.
To complement Ubiflex Extreme, Ubbink has developed ‘Extreme Fix’, an advanced adhesive that allows installation in damp conditions, reducing the potential for delays on site.
Ubiflex Extreme and Extreme Fix are available from Roofing and Builders’ Merchants nationwide. For more information, copies of BBA Certificates, or installation instructions, please call Ubbink on 01604 433000 or visit www.ubbink.co.uk.
